If you found this site, chances are you're planning a vacation in the Wisconsin
Dells. Following are some personal opinions and tips on how to make the most of
your Wisconsin Dells vacation.
The Wisconsin Dells is quickly growing into a year round destination offering more
adventures and activities for the whole family every year. There is so much to do
and see that most vacationers will only have time for only a fraction of all the
Dells has to offer.
The goal of this section is to help you enjoy the best the Dells has to offer and
make the most of your stay. Based on our experiences and that of others, this page
is a collection of favorite destinations and activities in the Dells. We are just
starting out, so, right now, there isn't much here, but, we will be continually
updating and adding information.
Planning Ahead
The best thing you can do to guarantee a great Wisconsin Dells vacation is to plan
ahead. There are so many attractions that you can literally spend days deciding
what you want to do. Fortunately, there are many sources of information online and
in print. It is highly recommended that you get a copy of the free Wisconsin Dells
guide (link provided below) prior to embarking on your trip. The more you put into
your trip before you get there, the more you will get out of your vacation after
you arrive.

Many of the waterparks in the Wisconsin Dells have been built with the help of these
companies. You can watch videos of all the latest waterslide technology on their
website.
One of the best planning tools available are the attraction and accommodation price
lists that are available at almost any hotel, restaurant or rest stop. You can save
a lot of time if you know the prices of attractions before you arrive and head out
on the town. You can also find some price lists online by clicking here.
Getting Here
One of the reasons that the Wisconsin Dells is so popular is it's convenient location
and accessibility from I-94. So, there isn't much to say on this topic but we still
have a few tips. If you will be taking highway 13 to get to your destination plan
accordingly during peak season. If you have hungry kids or bathroom breaks to take,
you might want to stop before attempting to cross the river. It is much easier to
tolerate an unexpected backup with a full stomach and empty bladder.
If you are arriving from the East on I-94, here are two other tips. If you are planning
on using exit 87, get off at 92 instead. You will have an opportunity to drive by
some of the Dell's best attractions and get yourself acquainted with the area.
Our second tip, for East to West travelers is the rest stop located about 45 miles
West of Milwaukee. It has ample parking, clean facilities, very quick access to
the highway and provides an opportunity to pick up some literature and brochures
to study on the last hour and a half of your trip.
Stretching your Dollar$
We liken the Dells to Las Vegas for kids and can wind up being just as easy to part
with your money. Here are some tips to make those hard earned dollars go just a
little farther.
Look for coupons. Depending on the hotel or resort you choose to stay at, they may
have their own coupon books or special deals on dining and attractions at their
establishment and others, so, be sure to ask if any coupons are available when you
check in.
If you have children, consider a room with a kitchenette or even a full kitchen.
Eating in can prove much cheaper and much easier than dragging the whole family
to a restaurant.
Dining Out
Moosejaw is one of our favorite family restraunts
in the Dells. Open year round, you can get a good meal at a reasonable price in
a lively atmosphere that keeps the whole family entertained. The dining area is
open and airy and the log construction gives it a Northwoods feel.
At Marley's you can get a taste of the
Caribbean while dining outdoors, which is why it is one of our top picks for an
outdoor summer time meal. For the late night crowd, Marley's also has almost nightly
events and live music.
Things To See & Places To Go
There are many guides and brochures filled with activities in the Wisconsin Dells
and these are all great resources. Here are some of our favorite activities when
in the Dells and some that you won't find in any guide book.
Be your own tour guide - From the moment you enter the Dells you can't miss
the signs for Ducks, Boat Tours, Jet Boats and other ways to see and experience
the Dells of the Wisconsin River. These are all great tours, but, sometimes you
want to be your own tour guide and for this, we suggest heading up the river to
Holiday Shores Campground.
Located about 4 miles North of Downtown Dells, once there, you can rent ski boats,
pleasure boats, pontoons or wave runners for just an hour or the whole day. You
can head out on your own journey through the Upper Dells, dock for a bite to eat
or park at one of the beaches along the way.
